DEADWAX DOT RIP

Own your music again.

A peer-to-peer music library for people who still think a file you hold beats a stream you rent. Find what other people are sharing, take it straight from them, and check every byte as it lands.

Windows · Linux · macOS. Free software, no account, nobody in the middle.

The Deadwax library, with a search field, shared tracks and live transfers

01The pitch

Not a streaming service. A record shop that never closes.

Deadwax keeps what worked about the old file-sharing scene and drops what got people burned: a real catalogue you can search, transfers between two people instead of a company, and nothing in the middle that can log you, throttle you or sell you.

  • Discovery

Search what people are sharing right now

Results come from the machines of the people online, not from a catalogue somebody else curates. No label decides what you are allowed to hear.

  • Transfers

    Straight from the source

Files come from the person who has them. If one seeder drops out, Deadwax moves to the next one without you babysitting the queue.

  • Privacy

Your address never leaves the room

Every transfer runs through the Tor network, so the other side sees a circuit rather than your connection. Nothing is logged by us, because there is no us.

  • Integrity

    Checked before it plays

Every track carries its own fingerprint. If a single byte arrives wrong, the download is thrown away instead of quietly joining your library.

  • Custody

A library that is actually yours

Your collection is a folder on your own disk. Move it, back it up, copy it, delete it. Nothing is uploaded anywhere you cannot see.

  • Companion

    Take the shelves with you

Pair a phone or another computer to browse and play your library while you are out. Meet the companion.

02How it works

Three moves, no setup rituals.

You point Deadwax at a folder. It handles the rest, including the parts that used to need a degree in cryptography.

  1. Find

Search a live catalogue and see who is seeding each result at this moment.

  2. Ask

Deadwax messages the seeder privately and returns with a handoff good for one download.

  3. Verify

The file arrives, its fingerprint is checked, and only then does it join your library.

Under the hood — discovery speaks Nostr, transfers ride Tor, and a slow relay never costs you the file. You never have to touch any of it.

03Look inside

Quiet software for loud music.

A library that reads like a record shelf, a queue you can actually see, and no promotional tiles shoved between the songs.
